FAQ
Is Reiki a religious practice?
No. Although the founder of Reiki was likely Buddhist, Reiki itself involves no religious leanings. People of all religious and non-religious backgrounds can use and receive Reiki.
What happens during an in-person animal reiki session?
The animal is completely free to move around if they wish during the session. If they are open to it I will place my hands lightly on their body, over specific energy centers or wherever I am drawn. If they are not interested in being touched I simply sit by them, transmitting the energy from there, and this works just as well.
Some clients feel a whole range of sensations, including sensations of heat, while others just feel a deep sense of relaxation. Experiences typically vary from session to session, and from animal to animal.
How does a long-distance healing session work?
Space and distance is irrelevant in reiki healing. It operates on the idea, well known within quantum physics, that everything is connected. It might be helpful to think of how cell phones work, with a sender and a receiver across great distances. The client's body and energy functions as the receiver in the case of a reiki session, while my body and energy functions as the sender.
For a long-distance session I would normally set up a time with you when your animal companion has the opportunity to relax or nap if they wish, while I transmit the reiki healing to them. I then check-in with you after the session via email. A distance reiki session is equally effective as a session in-person.
How often should I schedule reiki appointments?
That is completely up to you. Some people like to schedule reiki appointments once or twice a month as part of their animal's care routine. Others are working on some deeper rooted issues and schedule appointments until those issues are worked through.
If you are working on a deeper issue I recommend scheduling a series of 3-4 sessions relatively close to each other (if it's an acute issue, several over the course of a week or so, or if a long-term issue then several maybe 1 week apart) to see if the reiki is helpful and to gain some momentum.
For smaller sized animals, I recommend several 30-minute sessions over a 60-minute session, as smaller animals tend to soak in all the energy they are able to pretty quickly.
Again, how many sessions or how often is completely up to you. There is absolutely no pressure from me to schedule more appointments than you feel is needed.
